A tsunami of volunteers to Sweep Six

Michelle Obama’s “do-something” hurricane blew into Yolo County’s Election Kick-Off event recently, bringing a flood of volunteers ready to register, text, call, and canvass to turn out the vote for Democrats.

Indivisible Yolo expected 150 attendees, but when DOUBLE the number showed up, the hosts scrambled for more chairs, packing Veterans Memorial Hall with nearly 300 Indivisible activists, many of them brand-new.

The rollicking Harris/Walz Democratic National Convention inspired these eager volunteers to answer the call, and Indivisible Yolo was ready, with Action Team leaders spread around the room. Experienced activists answered questions to get folks going on canvassing, voter registration, phone banking, texting, voter protection, postcarding, and fundraising for key down-ballot candidates and for the local groups working their Central Valley neighborhoods. After viewing the Alliance Firebreak video about our Sweep Six strategy and hearing fired-up speakers, more than 160 people signed up to take action!

At the California Grassroots Alliance, where we commit to centering the volunteer, we’re hearing many such stories—tsunamis of supporters, many of them first-timers—from our partner groups and colleagues. What are you seeing? How are you working to onboard the flood of new volunteers?

Please send your story to Team@CAGrassrootsAlliance.org so we can share your learning across our grassroots network. Let’s get all of us out there and Sweep Six districts from purple to blue!

The road to the House majority runs through California, and YOU hold the power!
