Two thrilling wins, two losses, and two races still too close to call!

Sweep Six is still underway!

Alliance volunteers: Let’s celebrate exciting victories by George Whitesides and Dave Min in their key races, cheer Adam Gray and Derek Tran as their counts edge closer, and thank Will Rollins and Rudy Salas for fighting the good fight.

Congratulations to George Whitesides in CA-27 and Dave Min in CA-47 for winning challenging races! We owe deep thanks in the races that didn’t go our way to Will Rollins in CA-41 and Rudy Salas in CA-22. They took on entrenched politicians in uphill battles.

But wait–we’re not done yet! We Californians take pride in our state’s accessible voting options. We don’t begrudge the seven days for delivery of mail-in ballots postmarked by election day, because for us, this is what democracy looks like. But sometimes the suspense can be…a lot. Friday night’s nail-biters:  

• Derek Tran in CA-45 now trails by only 58 votes, with 34,000 still to be counted

• Adam Gray in Ca-13 now trails by only 2,004 votes, with 28,000 still to be counted

Razor-thin margins bring one more task where you can help: In-person ballot curing!

Alliance partner Bay Area Coalition has put out the call for folks to door-knock Democratic doors in Merced and Modesto, where up to a thousand CA-13 ballots need a signature or other technicality to be cured. In Greater LA, Derek Tran needs in-person ballot curing in CA-45 as well. With a December 1 deadline, ballot curing could literally make the difference in these tight races.  

We did not fulfill our mission to take back the House, and along with all our grassroots colleagues, Alliance volunteers are grappling with the national rightward shift. But we feel we were right to target these six races, and succeeded at focusing national and statewide attention on the potential of these purple districts much earlier in the cycle. The Republicans are headed into January with an ultra-slim House majority, and no margin for error. Stay tuned for how that works out.

Even though our Sweep Six journey is not yet complete, it’s never too early to say to each and every person who participated in the California Grassroots Alliance: Thanks for all the hard work!
